Neelam Khawani-Connett

Psychotherapist

Work Experience

Neels embodies a dual identity shaped by the clash of her Indian heritage and British upbringing. Her challenging childhood led to struggles with her mental health but through Therapeutic Communities (TC), she eventually found healing in peer-led, co-produced spaces that fostered trust and cultural belonging. As co-founder of the Relational Practice Movement, Interim Chair of INLLE, CCQI Assessor and TC Specialist for the Royal College of Psychiatrists, Neels is an international trainer and supervisor, as well as a group facilitator at Mosaic TC. She advocates for trauma-informed, culturally competent care, amplifying survivor voices. Neels serves as Director and Chair for Growing Better Lives CIC, and a Trustee at The Consortium for Therapeutic Communities (TCTC), Polyfonia and Community Housing and Therapy (CHT). She is also a panel member of The International Elly Jansen Award Committee and advocates for the re-imagination of transformative mental health care through co-production and cultural sensitivity.
